Fly Fishing at Plateau Lake, British Columbia
Nestled in the beautiful Cariboo region of British Columbia, Plateau Lake is a fantastic destination for fly anglers looking for quality rainbow trout and peaceful surroundings. The lake offers excellent fishing throughout the summer, especially for anglers using sinking lines and leech patterns.
During our trip, the fishing exceeded our expectations. We landed plenty of healthy rainbow trout by fishing a fast-sinking fly line with a 4 lb leader, allowing our flies to reach the feeding zone quickly.
The most productive flies of the trip were:
- Vampire Leech
- Brown Leech
- Brown Woolly Bugger
A slow, steady retrieve with occasional pauses proved to be the most effective presentation. Most of the trout were holding in deeper water, actively feeding on leeches and other subsurface food sources.
Plateau Lake is known for its clear water, beautiful scenery, and consistent trout fishing. Whether you’re an experienced fly angler or just getting started, it’s a lake that rewards patience and proper presentation.
If you’re planning a fly fishing adventure in British Columbia, Plateau Lake deserves a spot on your list. Bring a selection of leech patterns, a fast-sinking line, and be prepared for some exciting rainbow trout action.
